Hisae got inspiration from the Japanese concept of “Kintsugi”, which is the art of fixing broken pottery by applying golden lacquer on the cracks, making something imperfect beautiful. Through her artwork, she shows how one can accept and live with his own imperfections, emphasizing the grace that can come from one’s brokenness.

About Hisae Sasaki

Born in Japan in 1971, she grew up in the northern prefecture of Akita. She learned calligraphy and Japanese flower arrangement which she unites in her three dimensional art work. In 2019, she got inspiration from the Japanese concept of “Kintsugi”, which is the art of fixing broken pottery by applying golden lacquer on the cracks, making something imperfect beautiful.
