About Mitsumasa Nonaka

Born in Tokyo in 1949, he grew up in Asakusa, the city’s area of wood block print artisans, and was since childhood interested in geometric forms of color. After finishing his woodblock print studies and inspired by this mastery, he developed his personal way of drawing and painting on rice paper. Depicting urban scenery and nature in abstract forms, he seeks to express this inner peace and balance so particular to both traditional and contemporary life in Japan.
